The Maritime Proof of Concept Fund was recently launched by the Government of Malta, in collaboration with the University of Malta and Transport Malta. The Fund will make €100,000 available in funds to those who have a project in mind that would kick off innovative initiatives related to the maritime sector, and successful applicants may benefit from a grant of up to €20,000.
Maritime Seed Awards 2020
The Maritime Seed Award (MarSA) is an initiative between the Malta Marittima Agency and the University of Malta supported by the TAKEOFF Business Incubator, Knowledge Transfer Office and the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation (CEBI) at the University of Malta.
The aim of this programme is to help move promising ideas from the maritime field forward toward commercialization, thus helping make sure that ideas do not die away at the initial stages, but are actually taking from lab to life. The programme helps providesupport to researchers and entrepreneurs when they need it the most, in order to ensure that their likelihood of success is increased.
Two types of initiatives will be funded through the Maritime Seed Award. Academic staff from the University of Malta may apply for ‘proof of concept’ funds. These funds will enable applicants to take forward an innovation developed through research at the University, towards it being commercialised. The second type of initiative being funded is for entrepreneurs from within or outside the University, who may apply for ‘seed’ funds which will enable a step-change in taking their independent technology or knowledge-based start-up closer to the first customer or investment.
Potential applicants for both initiatives will need to attend online workshops organised by the respective entities. The workshops will provide an overview for creating a competitive proposal. The final application form will only be accepted if applicants or their representatives register and attend their respective workshops.
